Presenter bio

Thomas (Tom) Reed has been married for 43 years to his wife Lynne. He and his wife live in Florida. They have 2 children, a daughter and son and 4 grandchildren. 

Tom started his career in sales and finance, he went back to school and attended Pittsburgh Technical College when his children were small and focused on architectural construction and computer aided design. Tom believed in hard work and having a great attitude with the ability to focus on human engineering that would ultimately lead to his career development. 

Tom admits his life has been blessed with work for companies such as Raytheon Technical Service Company (RTS), L3 Security and Detection (SDS) Company and others. He has had the opportunity to be involved in leading some significant projects and programs as follows: 

  • Upgrades to Federal Airports for their electronic systems for the Department of Transportation 
  • Installation of Explosive and Trace Detection systems into Federal Airports throughout the United States for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) / Transportation Security Administration (TSA) 
  • Assigned to special programs after 911, such as:
  1. Salt Lake City International Airport for the 2002 Winter Olympics 
  2. Leading the upgrade program of all checkpoint technologies into 444 federalized airports 
  3. Managing a 100M dollar acquisition contract for Explosive Detection Systems with L3 Security and Detection Systems (SDS) 
  4. Managing a 2B dollar life cycle program for DHS’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) 

During his career period Tom and his wife also managed and built 10 residential single-family homes, and in the past 12+ years Tom has been involved in the technology of digital fabrication in cold formed steel. He currently is the Regional Sales Manager for HOWICK LTD and manages other projects for them such as: 

  • Previous 5-year Contract with NAVFAC Expeditionary Naval Seabees Construction Battalion 
  • International Code Council (ICC) listing report 4576 
  • Autodesk Technology Center partnership in Boston, and 
  • Other special initiatives
